Not To Be Overlooked
Dariel Fitzkee, as David Goodsell points out in his biography, is a magician whose name is mentioned on numerous occasions, but is probably the least read in the magic community. Hopefully, author and historian Goodsell will change that with this superb biography. Goodsell's thoroughness of research reveals the story of a man whose extremely high standards may have significantly contributed to Fitzkee's love/hate relationship with his magic peers, but whose contributions nevertheless to magical literature and history can never be diminished nor dismissed. Not only is the biography well written and documented, but it comes with a DVD which features Mr. Goodsell's lecture at a magic convention, reasonably good quality footage of Fitzkee performing, and a remembrance from Dariel Fitzkee's daughter, Marcia Dobbs. Is this a book for your own magic library? I would like to think so, but at the very least, this book belongs in every SAM and IBM club library. Certain books form the very foundation of our understanding of the art and craft of magic, and this is one of them.
